A helpful guide to the most common questions we’re asked by homeowners across Darlington, County Durham and Yorkshire.

Do you charge for surveys?

We offer free consultations and can arrange full surveys depending on the service required.

Do you offer guarantees?

Yes - all major damp proofing, timber treatments and structural repairs come with long‑term guarantees of up to 10 years.

Do you work on both residential and commercial properties?

Absolutely. We handle homes, rental properties, commercial buildings, renovations and insurance work.

How can I tell if I have woodworm?

Signs include small round holes, fine dust (frass), crumbling edges, and dead beetles near timber.

How do I know if I have penetrating damp?

Look for damp patches that grow after rain, peeling paint, crumbling plaster, or watermarks on walls and ceilings.

Is condensation really that serious?

Yes - condensation can lead to black mould, poor air quality, and damage to décor. Proper ventilation is essential.

Need More Help?

If you have a question that isn’t listed here, just get in touch - we’re always happy to offer advice and guidance.

What are wall ties and why do they fail?

Wall ties hold the inner and outer walls together. Older ties corrode over time, causing cracking, bulging brickwork, and structural instability.

What causes rising damp?

Rising damp occurs when moisture from the ground travels up through masonry walls due to a failed, missing, or bridged damp proof course.

What’s the difference between dry rot and wet rot?

  • Dry rot spreads aggressively and can travel through masonry.
  • Wet rot stays localised but still weakens timber significantly. Both require professional treatment.

Which areas do you cover?

We cover Darlington, County Durham, York, Harrogate, Knaresborough, Thirsk, Ripon and surrounding areas.
